Job Description

Canonical is recruiting a Senior Partner Sales Manager who will focus on its Global System Integrator (GSI) partners. According to the posting, these partners are central to Canonical's plans for the next few years, and this role aims to convert those alliances into Ubuntu-based business. The position is full-time and remote.

The manager supports GSI partners through their deal cycles and throughout their own sales teams. The goal is to help partners put together Ubuntu-based solutions and long-term digital transformation platforms built on Ubuntu stacks and services. The manager reports to the Partner Sales Director for the relevant geographic region.

Relationship management is the heart of the job. The manager earns the trust of partner leaders, grows Canonical's market share and attach rate, and makes the case for the partnership inside and outside the company. Conversations run from engineers up to chief-level executives, and the manager acts as the link between partner executives and Canonical's leadership team.

Hands-on engagement with customers is expected. The manager runs workshops on customer initiatives, attends sales events, delivers public presentations and joins executive meetings arranged by the Senior Director. Travel is a regular feature, reaching up to 40 percent of working time and sometimes crossing borders.

Candidates need a proven record across alliance and indirect sales management, along with working knowledge of OpenStack, containers, virtualization and wider cloud platforms. The posting also asks for knowledge of how partner firms and their sales models function, especially GSIs, plus a grasp of Linux, the cloud software market and open source selling models. Self-direction, practical problem solving and comfort with pressure and ambitious targets are part of the profile.

  • Support GSI partners through their deals and across their sales teams
  • Help partners design Ubuntu-based solutions and digital transformation platforms
  • Negotiate contracts and commercial terms
  • Coordinate executive-level touchpoints between partner leaders and Canonical's leadership
  • Lead customer workshops and present at sales events and executive meetings
  • Work alongside marketing, sales engineering and product teams to hit targets and voice partner feedback
  • Travel, sometimes abroad, for up to 40 percent of working time

Requirements

  • Proven background across alliance and indirect sales management
  • Hands-on familiarity with OpenStack, containers, virtualization and wider cloud platforms
  • Working knowledge of Linux, the cloud software market and open source selling models
  • Familiarity with how partner firms and their sales models work, GSIs in particular
  • Ability to pin down customer needs, identify gaps and create new opportunities
  • Self-directed, disciplined and practical in approach
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
