Job Description
Motive is seeking a Senior Security Engineer for device and hardware security. The role is remote and full time, and sits within the Product Security team as the main security contact for engineering and hardware groups. Much of the work involves design reviews and threat modeling, along with building secure-by-default libraries, services and components that let hardware engineers ship safely.
The engineer establishes the security baseline for Motive devices, covering the boot chain, firmware, over-the-air updates and factory processes. Risk is assessed at each stage of a device's life, from design and manufacturing through deployment, updates and retirement. The engineer leads architecture reviews and security testing, and writes requirements for hardware platforms, firmware interfaces, boot logic, debug access and device lifecycle controls in systems tied to the cloud. Findings are followed up with the hardware group until they are prioritized, verified and resolved.
Candidates should have at least five years in hardware security, including experience building security-by-design patterns for new devices and platforms, and at least five years working with product teams on security design and requirements. Hands-on coding in Python and in C or C++ is expected. Candidates should know how hardware roots of trust work, along with secure boot, remote attestation, key handling, device identity and provisioning security. Experience across cloud, runtime, supply chain and application security is also listed. The posted Canadian pay range is $146,000 to $184,000 CAD.
