Robinhood is seeking a Senior Software Developer, Backend to join its high-performing team in Toronto, Ontario. Robinhood works to democratize finance for all, building platforms and infrastructure that support an evolving financial landscape following the integration of entities like WonderFi, Coinsquare, and Bitbuy.
In this position, you will operate at the core of critical infrastructure projects, delivering reliable access to financial instrument data that drives new product features and expansions. Most product initiatives start with this team, making your contributions central to the company's broader operational goals. This hybrid role requires working from the Toronto office at least three days per week.
This opportunity is well-suited for experienced backend engineers who excel in collaborative environments, enjoy designing low-latency distributed systems, and want to guide complex technical projects across multiple teams. Candidates will enjoy a compensation package that includes a base pay range of $166,000 to $195,000 CAD, alongside bonus opportunities, equity, and benefits.
Responsibilities
- Construct scalable systems and backend components while balancing performance, stability, and maintainability
- Design, implement, test, and release production-ready features meeting low-latency and high-correctness standards
- Collaborate with data and frontend engineering groups to refine application programming interfaces used by millions of customers
- Provide technical leadership for complex multi-team projects and mentor junior developers
- Detect and execute improvements for team workflows and system performance
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software development experience
- Minimum of 3 years designing and building large-scale, distributed, low-latency systems
- Proficiency in intuitive API design and highly concurrent backend system development
- Proven capability to deliver long-term impact on team-wide architecture or systems
- Strong prioritization judgment, initiative leadership, and peer mentoring skills
- Ability to work on-site in the Toronto, ON, Canada office in a hybrid capacity at least 3 days per week
