Job Description
Wise seeks a Senior Software Developer for WP to join its London office on a full-time, on-site basis. Wise Platform provides infrastructure enabling banks, enterprise organizations, and software firms to deliver international payment options to their clientele through an application programming interface. The Partner Experience squad builds and maintains the operational systems and Partner Portal that allow enterprise clients to launch faster, handle compliance inquiries, review fraud, and direct teams.
This position focuses heavily on developing greenfield systems at scale rather than maintaining legacy applications. Daily operations involve gathering requirements alongside designers and product managers, conducting technical discovery, mapping complex software landscapes, and shepherding features from design through production support. The role suits an engineer experienced in backend architectures who enjoys autonomy and collaboration with cross-functional partners like compliance, risk, and financial crime teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop backend microservices handling partner features including transaction visibility, case management, audit logging, fraud reporting, and request-for-information workflows
- Implement role-based access control and permission frameworks governing portal capabilities
- Integrate SAML 2.0 single sign-on solutions for enterprise clients and map identity schemas
- Maintain communication layer services between Wise and partners to support new operational workflows
- Design and document partner-facing application programming interface endpoints
- Collaborate with compliance, financial crime, and know-your-customer groups to incorporate sanctions and fraud reporting into the portal
- Conduct technical discovery by mapping existing dependencies and authoring design documents
- Provide production support and resolve live client issues
Requirements
- Design, build, and deploy backend microservices utilizing Java and Spring Boot
- Apply domain-driven design, microservices patterns, and event-driven architecture
- Design and maintain commercial RESTful application programming interfaces including OpenAPI, Swagger, OAuth2, and versioning protocols
- Model relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL, addressing indexing and query performance
- Map intricate technical landscapes, analyze dependencies, and document findings clearly
- Execute tasks reliably with autonomy without needing continuous supervision
- Collaborate effectively with adjacent teams, clear internal blocks, and build cross-functional relationships
- Consider security, reliability, auditability, and compliance as core software design parameters
Qualifications
- Background in developing enterprise portals, B2B software-as-a-service products, or partner platforms
- Familiarity with cross-border money movement and payment systems
- Experience handling identity and access management technologies including SAML, single sign-on, SPIFFE, and OAuth2
- Exposure to event streaming platforms like Kafka
- Prior work within platform teams supporting internal or external consumers
- Capability to articulate technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Interest in foreign exchange, international finance, or payments infrastructure
