Job Description

Affirm is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Backend, for its Marketing and Privacy Engineering group. The job is remote across Canada, but eligibility is limited to residents of nine named provinces, and Quebec is not one of them. Within that group, the marketing pillar looks after logged-out web pages, web experiments, browser-side tagging, martech connections, attribution and measurement work.

The engineer builds the data and measurement backbone that ties consumer acquisition across paid media, search and answer-engine optimisation, and other growth channels to results such as sign-ups, conversions and gross merchandise volume. Deliverables span resilient data flows, systems that handle identity and event records, attribution and conversion tracking, and links between marketing and analytics platforms. Consent, tagging and privacy requirements are designed into the measurement architecture from the outset.

Beyond individual engineering, the senior engineer owns the team's quarterly objectives and guides colleagues through open-ended problems. The role includes watching team metrics, escalating issues, and supporting on-call and operational upkeep. The engineer sets code review and design expectations, gives feedback that helps others develop, and shares good practice through writing and talks.

Candidates need four-plus years of hands-on time shipping backend services at scale in Python or Kotlin. A track record with highly available distributed systems on AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes is needed, along with hands-on work with marketing measurement tools such as Google Tag Manager, GA4, conversion APIs, customer data platforms and consent management platforms. Production pipelines built with Snowflake, dbt and Airflow are also expected, as is experience writing technical plans for significant features.

The base pay range is listed as CAD 153,000 to 213,000 per year, and new hires usually start toward the bottom of the band. Pay is part of a broader package: equity, monthly allowances for tech and wellbeing, fully paid medical, dental and vision premiums for staff and dependants, and a stock purchase scheme.
