Job Description
TRM Labs has an opening for a Senior Software Engineer, Backend, on its Product Engineering group. TRM sells AI-driven intelligence tools that public and private sector agencies use to trace illicit activity, assemble cases and map threat networks. The Product Engineering group builds features and shared frameworks for outside customers and internal teams alike.
The engineer builds dependable, scalable backend software that all TRM customers rely on, including public APIs within the company's API product suite. API design should account for customer experience and performance. The backend runs on Node.js, but prior Node.js experience is not necessary because the team expects people to pick up tools on the job. The work also includes shared engineering services for internal business units.
Beyond writing code, the engineer converts a functional vision into a roadmap with concrete outcomes, builds relationships across the business, and helps refine operational routines. The team runs weekly sprints, and engineers can lead projects as technical anchors. A rotating on-call duty triages internal-tool help requests that come through designated Slack channels.
Team members span Eastern and Pacific time zones and share at least six hours of overlap with Pacific time, between 8 AM and 2 PM. The environment moves fast, with shifting priorities, strong ownership and frequent communication. AI fluency is treated as a baseline expectation and is evaluated during interviews.
