Job Description
Wise's KYC and onboarding squad, which sits inside Servicing, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in London. The squad lets internal teams adjust onboarding and identity verification through configuration across many countries, while keeping customers protected and compliant. It has three groups: one for business onboarding, one for personal onboarding, and one that runs verification for Wise's B2B platform.
The squad treats its verification systems as core production infrastructure. In FY2025 Wise served about 15.6 million customers, onboarded roughly 5.9 million new ones (around 500,000 a month) and moved 145.2 billion GBP across borders, spanning more than 160 countries and 40 currencies. The verification flow covers document capture, automated checks, agent tools and compliance monitoring. The squad is shifting KYC and FinCrime toward configuration-driven products, rebuilding systems as microservices, and using ML and AI where they improve decisions.
A senior engineer takes full ownership of large projects, including the roadmap for a domain, covering debt reduction, reliability, scaling and security. Responsibilities include building backend services with clean interfaces that conceal complexity, connecting to risk and mitigation tooling to keep Wise compliant, and spotting high-impact problems inside and beyond the team. Quarterly targets form part of the job, and so does coaching other engineers and spreading good practice.
Candidates should bring four or more years of work with asynchronous queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ and a record of designing microservices that scale. Deep experience with relational and document or key-value stores, including query tuning and handling sensitive data over its lifetime, is necessary. The company values clear communication of architecture to product, design and other engineering teams, and a commitment to tidy, testable and efficient code. Relocation support is not offered for this role, though internal visa sponsorship is available.
