Wise is hiring a Senior Software Engineer I for the Risk Control & Governance team within the Risk Assessment Group in London. This on-site position focuses on establishing the assurance, governance, and data foundations that keep every risk assessment at Wise consistent, auditable, explainable, and continuously monitored.
The role sits at the intersection of Product, Financial Crime, and the Risk API platform. The person in this role will build high-throughput solutions and robust data foundations to ensure that risk decisions operate reliably at scale. Immediate objectives involve implementing data quality monitoring, lineage tracking, automated control effectiveness validation, and comprehensive audit trail infrastructure.

Responsibilities
- Build and maintain data ownership, lineage, and quality monitoring systems for risk decision data
- Design continuous monitoring and validation systems to verify control performance, including drift detection and coverage analysis
- Implement end-to-end audit trails, change history tracking, and explainability tooling for regulatory evidence generation
- Design high-throughput solutions capable of handling large volumes of data across multiple risk domains
- Collaborate with the Risk API team to embed governance and assurance capabilities into the core platform
Requirements
- Proven backend engineering experience building high-throughput, data-intensive systems
- Hands-on expertise with Kafka, SQL, and NoSQL databases
- Experience with data quality frameworks, pipeline orchestration, or lineage tracking
- Ability to reason about complex distributed systems and design robust solutions
