FairMoney, a credit-led mobile bank operating in Nigeria and India, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Identity) to join its Technology Division. Established in 2017 and backed by global investors such as Tiger Global, DST, and Flourish Ventures, the company features an engineering team of more than 75 individuals distributed across Lagos, Bangalore, Paris, Türkiye, and other global locations.
In this role, you will build foundational infrastructure, focusing on identity verification, authentication, KYC, payments, transactions, and mobile application flows. The position is well-suited for autonomous professionals who value high trust, take end-to-end responsibility for their projects, and possess a strong product mindset. Engineers at FairMoney utilize modern AI tools like Claude Code, work closely with compliance and risk teams to navigate regulations, and contribute to architecture and mentorship within a tech stack that includes Go, Ruby, PostgreSQL, AWS, and GitHub.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex technical projects from initial system design through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance
- Build and maintain reliable distributed systems supporting ledgers, payments, and mobile app APIs for millions of users across multiple markets
- Collaborate with Product, Compliance, and Risk departments to translate regulations into secure software solutions
- Incorporate AI coding agents into daily workflows to enhance delivery speed and efficiency
- Contribute to architectural designs, code reviews, and engineering standards while mentoring fellow engineers
Requirements
- At least 3 years of backend engineering experience with a strong foundation in system design, CI/CD, and distributed systems
- Background working in identity, authentication, KYC, fraud, or related domains, ideally within the financial services sector
- Proficiency in Go or deep backend experience in another language with readiness to transition to Go
- Demonstrated autonomy and accountability with high trust and low supervision
- Practical hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and LLM-assisted development workflows
- Clear, structured verbal and written communication skills
- Product mindset focused on best-in-class user experience and proactive improvements
