Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Simple Trade Experience team within the Consumer & Business group. Coinbase operates as a remote-first organization, though employees gather periodically for quarterly in-person working sessions known as surges. In this role, the engineer will manage the backend and frontend systems that drive the conversion, purchasing, and selling flows on the Coinbase application and website.
This position involves building scalable architecture for multiple asset types and trading categories, such as limit, spot, and recurring trades, to serve a global user base. The ideal candidate has a strong background in software development and distributed systems, with the ability to collaborate effectively with design and product teams. Responsibilities
- Design and deliver high-performance, consistent systems that support trading for a global user base
- Architect robust systems capable of supporting various trading assets and formats at web-scale
- Collaborate with product and design colleagues to release trading interfaces on web and mobile
- Scale and maintain essential trading infrastructure to accommodate traffic growth
- Enhance team engineering standards via code reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentorship
Requirements
- At least five years of software engineering experience building and scaling production services for high-traffic environments
- Experience designing and maintaining high-availability distributed systems, ideally within financial or trading platforms
- Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Java or Golang, along with database familiarity like Redis or MongoDB
- Experience combining customer-focused product awareness with operational excellence and observability
- Background in modernizing legacy systems into next-generation platforms
- Ability to utilize generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency and quality
