The organization seeks a Senior Staff Applied Scientist for its Science Platform team. This position suits an experienced technical leader with deep knowledge in machine learning, statistics, and causal inference, combined with strong software engineering skills. In this capacity, the individual will shape the scientific roadmap for forecasting, causal inference, and agentic analytics. The professional will construct analytics agent architectures, build shared forecasting capabilities, develop reusable causal inference tools, and establish validation frameworks to ensure reliable and reproducible outcomes. The role requires working across the full development lifecycle to convert research papers into production capabilities. This is a fully remote role offering a base salary between USD 232,500 and 325,500 per year, alongside eligibility for equity and comprehensive benefits.
Responsibilities
- Determine the scientific roadmap for the Data Science Platform concerning forecasting, causal inference, and agentic analytics
- Investigate, assess, and adapt emerging methodologies from research papers into functional production utilities
- Design and construct the architecture and capabilities of the analytics agent
- Construct reusable causal inference tools enabling teams to evaluate product changes, policies, and business choices using observational data
- Develop shared forecasting capabilities encompassing probabilistic predictions, hierarchical forecasts, and scenario analyses
- Establish evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, and simulations to verify the accuracy of agent-generated analyses
- Write production Python software and collaborate with engineers on APIs, data pipelines, system design, and observability
- Partner with data scientists and business stakeholders to turn recurring needs into accessible platform workflows and documentation
- Provide technical mentorship to scientists and engineers while sharing methodological advancements
Requirements
- Extensive background in statistical inference and econometrics with experience building causal methods for observational data
- Practical background in developing and deploying forecasting systems such as time series modeling and temporal validation
- Proficiency in software engineering with substantial experience writing and maintaining production Python software
- Familiarity with API design, version control, automated testing, code review, and operational monitoring
- Demonstrated capability to evaluate scientific literature, replicate findings, and create reliable software solutions
- Experience building large language model applications or analytical agents involving tool use and code execution
- Ability to communicate statistical assumptions and technical trade-offs to business audiences
- Experience mentoring technical contributors through design reviews and collaboration
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, or a related field, or a master's degree with equivalent depth
- At least eight years of relevant industry experience following a doctorate, or ten years following a master's degree
- Published works, open-source contributions, or adopted internal tools related to causal inference, forecasting, or agentic analytics
- Experience constructing scientific platforms or libraries utilized by other data scientists
- Experience building agents at scale that execute analytical work such as data retrieval and SQL execution
