This senior staff engineer role serves as a central technical anchor for Freshworks' multi-tier SaaS platform, shaping how that architecture evolves over time. The engineer builds dependable APIs, microservices and web-facing platform features that handle complicated enterprise workloads, with goals of faster shipping, steadier operation and quick response times. The job is hands-on: the engineer writes performance-sensitive code, sets engineering norms, and coaches engineers in other groups.
Responsibilities include owning the technical plan for an engineering area, pinpointing architectural limits and accumulated technical debt, and planning incremental refactors that protect delivery schedules. The engineer leads investigation of intricate production incidents in distributed systems, runs root-cause reviews and institutes durable safeguards. Standards are raised through peer reviews, automated test suites and continuous-integration pipelines. The role works with architects, product managers, designers, testers, operations and customer-success teams, and makes sure platform designs and team routines conform to the company's information-security policies and regulatory obligations.
The candidate should have twelve to fifteen years of practical software and platform engineering work in modern distributed SaaS, and a history of owning architecture for large products or core infrastructure. Advanced skill with Java (Spring or Spring Boot) or Python is required, along with experience building large back-end services and deep knowledge of multi-tier design, microservices, REST interfaces, message queues and database tuning. Strong Linux internals and production troubleshooting are expected, as is the ability to discuss technical trade-offs with both engineering panels and executives. A bachelor's degree in computing, software engineering or a related discipline is preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience. The role is on-site and gives no salary range.
Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the technical plan of the area: scalable, cost-efficient, low-latency designs.
- Write maintainable, performant code for APIs and core platform features.
- Locate architectural bottlenecks and technical debt, and propose incremental refactoring that keeps delivery on track.
- Lead root-cause analysis of major production issues and institute lasting preventive measures.
- Raise standards through reviews, test automation and CI/CD integration.
- Coach and grow engineers across functions.
- Ensure designs and team practices meet information-security and compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Twelve to fifteen years of practical software and platform engineering in modern distributed SaaS.
- Track record owning end-to-end architecture for large products or core platform infrastructure.
- Experience building and running high-availability, low-latency, high-throughput systems under tight release cadences.
- Extensive history influencing multi-disciplinary teams toward agreement.
- Expert Java (Spring/Spring Boot) or Python skill for large-scale backend services.
- Deep knowledge of multi-tier architecture, microservices, REST APIs, message queues and database optimization.
- Advanced Linux, production debugging, log analysis and telemetry skills.
- Excellent command of data structures, algorithms, OOP and design patterns.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's-level degree in computing or a neighboring discipline, or hands-on experience of comparable depth.
- Experience with CI/CD automation and unit and integration testing frameworks.
