Gusto is currently seeking a Senior Staff Product Designer for the Finance division to establish the user experience vision and strategy across four interconnected product spaces: Consumer Money, Business Money, Payments, and Risk. This position functions at a senior staff level and operates within a hybrid work model, requiring on-site presence in the San Francisco office approximately two to three days each week.
This opportunity is suited for a design professional who possesses extensive experience shaping high-trust financial systems and integrating artificial intelligence into design workflows. The person in this role will act as an individual contributor on top-priority initiatives, partner closely with product directors and engineering leaders, mentor fellow designers, and define how artificial intelligence-first financial user experiences are built.

Responsibilities
- Formulate the user experience vision and strategy across the money and risk teams
- Identify and pursue high-impact design opportunities that span multiple pods
- Collaborate with product directors and engineering leaders to influence product strategy and team objectives
- Establish AI-first financial user experience patterns for handling uncertainty, errors, and user agency
- Direct how customer insights are gathered and shared across multiple teams
- Provide coaching, critique, and mentorship to develop other designers
- Contribute and evolve platform patterns and design system standards
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of product design experience
- Track record of guiding design direction across multiple teams, pods, or product domains
- Experience designing for high-trust, high-stakes environments where clarity is critical
- Ability to stay hands-on with prototyping, iteration, and shipping alongside strategic work
- Experience advancing service models and experience architectures spanning multiple teams
- Active use of artificial intelligence in design practice with the ability to direct others
