Zoox seeks a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to join its Planner Frameworks Pipeline team and contribute to large-scale simulation pipelines. These GPU-intensive and data-heavy workloads run on Ray.io and Kubernetes, playing a critical role in validating the behavior of the Zoox self-driving vehicle. Operating as a small and independent unit within the broader Autonomy organization, the group collaborates directly with on-vehicle algorithm and model developers to maintain a comprehensive view of validation pipelines.
This hands-on position requires a high degree of autonomy and ownership to shape framework architecture, enhance reliability, and scale capabilities for new use cases. The ideal candidate has a strong background in maintaining highly available production systems. While prior experience in robotics or autonomous systems is not mandatory, familiarity with the robotic data lifecycle is viewed favorably. Responsibilities
- Enhance the performance, reliability, and cost efficiency of simulation and validation pipelines

Requirements
- Over 8 years of professional industry experience
- Experience optimizing distributed systems at scale for efficiency and cost
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS
- Strong proficiency in Python along with familiarity with C++
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
- Experience with machine learning workloads including data generation, training, and inference from a cost optimization standpoint
- Previous background in performance investigation or algorithmic optimization
- Familiarity with Ray.io, specifically Ray Data and Ray Core
