Job Description

Robinhood is seeking a Senior Staff Security Engineer, Security Development to join a builder-first security engineering organization that designs and creates the underlying systems protecting user accounts, internal operations, and cloud infrastructure. Robinhood's mission focuses on expanding financial access for all participants during a major generational transfer of wealth.

This position targets hands-on technical leaders who prefer engineering production solutions over simply handing risks off to others. The scope involves embedding security into emerging AI and agentic infrastructure, alongside building automated internal platforms that scale security coverage and detection capabilities across the entire enterprise.

The role operates on an on-site schedule requiring presence at least three days per week in either the Bellevue, Washington or Menlo Park, California office. This opportunity is suited for senior technical professionals with extensive software and security engineering experience who enjoy tackling complex, unstructured problems in a high-performing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and execute solutions for high-leverage technical problems spanning authentication, identity infrastructure, cryptography, cloud security, and AI security.
  • Design and construct security platforms and runtime validation systems to safely support AI and agentic infrastructure at scale.
  • Develop internal security tooling utilizing AI to accelerate vulnerability discovery, enhance detection fidelity, and expand organizational coverage.
  • Collaborate with engineering managers and technical leads across Security Development teams to set priorities and align cross-cutting technical strategies.
  • Maintain close proximity to production environments to ensure architectural choices reflect actual large-scale system behavior.

Requirements

  • Bring 12 or more years of software or security engineering experience at a Senior Staff or Principal level.
  • Demonstrate hands-on experience building, operating, and maintaining production security systems end-to-end.
  • Possess deep expertise in one or more core domains including Identity and Access Management, authentication systems, cryptography, AWS cloud security, or infrastructure security.
  • Show hands-on background in securing AI infrastructure, LLM integrations, agentic systems, or related credential management challenges.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Go and Python for building backend security platforms and internal tools.
  • Exhibit strong distributed systems fundamentals and the ability to independently resolve unstructured technical problems.

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Performance-driven compensation featuring multipliers for impact, bonus opportunities, equity ownership, and 401(k) matching.
  • Comprehensive health insurance with 100% coverage for employees and 90% coverage for dependents.
  • Eligibility for the Robinhood Employee Fund to invest in private venture funds for US employees.
  • Access to AI tools, continuous skill-building programs, and a flexible lifestyle wallet for wellness and learning expenses.
  • Employer-paid life and disability insurance, fertility benefits, and mental health resources.
  • Paid time off including holidays, sick time, parental leave, and catered meals provided at the office.
