This position functions as both a technical mentor and a strategic operational manager, overseeing repair work, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring the readiness of the Robotaxi fleet. The ideal candidate acts as a change driver, bridging the gap between shop floor technicians and leadership.
The person in this role will handle the complete personnel lifecycle, from hiring and onboarding to performance management and professional development. Responsibilities include auditing standard operating procedures, analyzing performance metrics to maximize uptime, and maintaining strict adherence to environmental health and safety standards. This professional will collaborate closely with engineering, facilities, and test teams to align workshop execution with broader company goals and scaling initiatives.
This opportunity is well-suited for an experienced automotive professional with a strong background in both technical diagnostics and team management. Candidates must be comfortable operating in fast-paced settings, managing multiple priorities, and traveling for work when necessary. The schedule for this position is the first shift, running Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm.
Responsibilities
- Manage workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and performance management for the team.
- Coach technicians and leads by setting clear expectations and establishing succession plans.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures across inspections, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Utilize data and root cause analysis to improve shop throughput, vehicle uptime, and process repeatability.
- Verify that tools, equipment, parts, and facilities remain standardized and fully available.
- Maintain a clean and compliant work environment while championing environmental health and safety standards.
- Identify and mitigate operational risks and lead corrective actions.
- Track critical key performance indicators related to fleet readiness, quality, and downtime.
- Partner with engineering, test, and facilities departments to align with company roadmaps and testing milestones.
- Lead strategic scaling initiatives for larger fleets, new platforms, and expanded facility operations.
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for complex maintenance and configuration tasks.
- Communicate operational risks and constraints to leadership to support decision-making.
Requirements
- Bring at least eight years of hands-on automotive technician experience.
- Possess a minimum of four years of people leadership experience.
- Demonstrate experience leading teams in technical, automotive, or high-volume service settings.
- Show proven success in implementing and improving operational processes and standard work.
- Understand compliance programs, safety protocols, and 5S methodologies.
- Possess extensive knowledge of automotive tools, parts, diagnostic methods, and vehicle systems.
- Display high proficiency in wiring diagrams, soldering, and CAN or LIN architecture.
- Communicate effectively in written and verbal forms across technical and non-technical groups.
- Maintain a clean driving record and a willingness to travel locally and nationally over fifty percent of the time.
Qualifications
- Hold a bachelor's degree.
- Possess a technical trade school certificate or an associate degree in automotive repair.
- Bring past experience with autonomous vehicles or other safety-critical industries.
- Have worked in research and development, testing, or pre-production settings like engineering labs or prototype operations.

- Bring experience supporting scaling operations, fleet expansions, or new site launches.
- Understand electric vehicle architectures and high-voltage systems.
- Show experience using specialized testing gear for noise, vibration, harshness, vehicle dynamics, thermal testing, or durability.
