Job Description

Affirm operates for important financial moments, providing people with straightforward and predictable ways to pay over time without hidden fees or surprises. The company is currently hiring a Senior Technical Account Manager (Strategic Alliances) to join its engineering team on a remote basis for candidates residing in eligible Canadian provinces.

This is an operations-heavy position initially. The person who steps into this role will concentrate on keeping merchant integrations healthy through constant monitoring, triage, troubleshooting, and strict SLA delivery, before progressively taking on custom solutioning and broader cross-functional initiatives. Over the course of the first six to twelve months, the individual will build operational mastery and grow into owning a designated book of accounts end-to-end.

Key duties involve overseeing the operational aspects of technical account management for strategic alliances, addressing technical inquiries, conducting root-cause investigations utilizing logs and queries, designing custom integration solutions, and guiding less-experienced team members. The role suits professionals who want to act as technical leads on internal projects, influence product roadmaps by acting as the voice of the merchant, and help optimize partner integrations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the operational side of technical account management for the strategic alliance portfolio, handling alerting, monitoring, troubleshooting, and technical inquiries
  • Fulfill service level agreements while identifying potential technical risks before they impact customers and handling issues promptly
  • Conduct deep investigations and root-cause analysis using logs, queries, and integration data to resolve problems end-to-end
  • Drive launch initiatives in partnership with internal and merchant stakeholders, covering expansions, promotions, and new product adoption
  • Create tailored, high-scope integration solutions that combine standard integrations to solve complex, open-ended problems
  • Act as a technical lead for internal projects by defining milestones and driving the project roadmap
  • Establish and update documentation such as playbooks, runbooks, and UAT certification plans to reduce routine maintenance work
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to prioritize projects and share merchant feedback
  • Mentor junior team members, share knowledge from investigations, and participate in interviewing and team development
  • Transition over the first six to twelve months into full end-to-end operational ownership of a dedicated book of strategic alliance accounts

Requirements

  • At least six years of professional experience in an external-facing technical role such as Technical Account Management, Solutions Engineering, Partner Engineering, or Solutions Architecture
  • Demonstrated track record of managing the operational health of technical accounts and meeting service level agreements
  • Proven ability to handle alerting, monitoring, troubleshooting, and technical inquiries while balancing reactive tasks with proactive projects
  • Strong autonomy and project management skills to scope and deliver complex technical work independently
  • Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, webhooks, and the HTTP protocol
  • Hands-on experience debugging and validating integrations with tools like Postman
  • Ability to design custom technical solutions on top of API integrations
  • Proficiency in reading production-level code including HTML, JavaScript, and SQL, alongside at least one server-side language such as Python
  • Ability to author new queries for diagnosing system or merchant issues
  • Experience diagnosing issues via browser developer consoles, log analysis and observability platforms like Snowflake and Chronosphere, and ticketing tools like Jira and Notion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor explanations to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Residency in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the payments ecosystem
  • Familiarity with web and mobile application architecture
  • Experience implementing or customizing e-commerce platforms, payment gateways, or in-store point-of-sale systems
  • Experience acting as a technical lead on cross-functional projects and influencing product roadmaps

Core Skills

Benefits

  • 100 percent subsidized medical coverage, dental, and vision for employees and their dependents
  • Monthly stipends to support tech setup, health, and wellness options
  • Flexible time off and generous holiday calendars
  • Employee stock purchase plan offering discounted Affirm stock
  • Opportunity to earn equity rewards offered by Affirm Holdings, Inc.
