Canonical, the publisher of the Ubuntu platform used across artificial intelligence, IoT, and cloud computing, is seeking a Software Architect for Containers and Virtualization. In this role, the selected professional will guide the architecture, evolution, and design of Canonical LXD and MicroCloud, aiming to simplify the creation of small cloud environments using system containers and virtual machines. The position involves working across the full software stack, from low-level kernel namespaces and file systems to high-level management interfaces. This opportunity is suited for an experienced engineer with strong leadership capabilities who wants to influence modern cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture for LXD and MicroCloud
- Mentor, advise, and support the career progression of colleagues
- Write code using Golang and C
- Review software produced by other engineers
- Maintain product security and performance
- Demonstrate technical leadership within the company and external communities
- Travel globally twice annually for company events
Requirements
- Professional experience with Go and C
- Familiarity with storage, networking, and virtualization
- Background in container technologies
- Knowledge of concurrent, distributed systems
- Familiarity with Linux, with Debian or Ubuntu preferred
