Swiggy seeks a Software Dev Engineer III to join its team in Bengaluru. In this on-site role, the professional will design, build, and operate foundational data platform capabilities, including distributed compute, storage, ingestion, and serving. This position is suited for an engineer who excels at solving complex systems challenges, such as maintaining data pipeline dependability during volume growth, enhancing platform behavior predictability, and optimizing performance and cost without sacrificing governance or correctness. The selected candidate will handle problems from initial architecture and implementation through rollout, operations, and observability.
Key duties involve creating scalable data platform services, developing reliable streaming and batch data processing capabilities, and building self-service workflows and platform abstractions. The candidate will also establish operational standards, apply data governance, lead technical design reviews, collaborate with product, analytics, machine learning, and infrastructure teams, and mentor other engineers.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate distributed systems and scalable data platform services
- Develop reliable streaming and batch data processing and ingestion workflows with clear correctness and recovery guarantees
- Optimize data workload performance, availability, and cost efficiency
- Construct self-service workflows and platform abstractions for engineering and data users
- Establish operational practices covering observability, alerting, capacity planning, and incident response
- Apply data governance, access control, and safe change management to production datasets and systems
- Lead technical design reviews to resolve ambiguous problems
- Collaborate with infrastructure, product, analytics, and machine-learning teams
- Mentor engineers through code and design reviews
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience in building and operating production systems
- Experience with distributed systems or data infrastructure
- Programming proficiency in languages such as Java, Scala, Python, or Go
- Understanding of distributed computing concepts, system design, concurrency, data structures, and fault tolerance
- Hands-on background with large-scale streaming or data processing technologies like Apache Spark, Kafka, or Flink
- Experience creating reliable data pipelines and working with analytical warehouses, lakehouse systems, or storage formats
- SQL proficiency including partitioning, data modeling, performance tuning, and data quality
- Experience operating cloud-based production systems with monitoring and troubleshooting responsibilities
Qualifications
- Experience with platforms including Snowflake, Databricks, Delta Lake, or Apache Iceberg
- Background in building developer tooling, multi-tenant platforms, or self-service infrastructure
- Experience with privacy-aware data systems, data lineage, governance, or access control
- Track record of improving cost, reliability, or performance at scale
- Experience leading technical initiatives and supporting the growth of other engineers
