This internship position is based out of the Toronto, Ontario office, requiring in-person attendance a minimum of three days each week. Interns will not be given marginal tasks; instead, they will independently manage a significant project from the initial planning stages through production deployment. Responsibilities
- Manage a comprehensive backend engineering project from the initial scoping phase through to production launch
- Collaborate with a designated mentor from onboarding to final deployment to learn the engineering stack and financial domain
- Design, test, build, and release software applications that satisfy strict scalability and correctness standards for a live financial system
- Work alongside cross-functional teams to tackle complex organizational challenges
- Scale and maintain existing codebases utilizing tools and frameworks such as Python/Django, Go, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, Memcached, AWS, and Kubernetes
Requirements
- Enrollment in a full-time, degree-granting academic program with a planned graduation date of Winter 2027 or Spring 2028
- Strong fundamentals in computer science paired with a deep comprehension of optimal coding standards
- Effective communication abilities to guide large projects forward in fast-paced or ambiguous situations
- Familiarity with Python or Django, or Go
- Understanding of relational databases and database transactions
- In-person presence in the Toronto, ON office at least three days a week
