Coinbase is hiring a Software Engineer, Developer Infrastructure to join its remote-first organization. In this position, you will build and manage foundational tools and platform services used by engineers across the company. Coinbase operates on a mission to increase economic freedom, maintaining an intense and demanding engineering environment where team members gather quarterly for in-person working sessions known as surges. Based on your strengths and interests, you will be assigned to a specific team within the Developer Infrastructure group, which owns everything from code commits to production deployment, including continuous integration, scalable build systems, release platforms, and test infrastructure.
This role suits engineers who enjoy high-leverage systems work and measure their success by the productivity and impact of internal developer customers. You will design, build, and operate secure, reliable components that operate at scale while participating in on-call rotations and collaborating across the entire engineering organization. Responsibilities
- Build, ship, and maintain core developer infrastructure services including continuous integration, build systems, deployment orchestration, and test infrastructure
- Improve metrics that impact all engineers, such as build wall time, deployment speed, safety, test feedback duration, and flakiness
- Own components end-to-end through implementation, testing, rollout, monitoring, and team on-call rotations
- Write reliable, well-tested, observable code designed for production environments from the outset
- Partner with engineering teams to understand user pain points and translate them into platform enhancements
- Contribute to technical design discussions and independently complete assigned work items
- Share knowledge and conduct code reviews to raise overall engineering quality
Requirements
- At least two years of experience building and operating production software
- Solid fundamentals in distributed systems
- Proficiency in or a strong ability to quickly learn a language like Go
- Demonstrated history of shipping backend or platform features depended on by other engineers or services
- Strong operational focus on reliability, security, and observability
- Clear communication skills and the ability to drive scoped projects independently
- Customer-focused mindset centered on the impact of systems on other developers
Qualifications
- Prior exposure to developer infrastructure or platform domains such as CI/CD, build systems, release tooling, test infrastructure, or developer productivity engineering
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, AWS, GitHub Actions, Terraform, or containers like Docker and OCI
- Experience using observability and performance tooling such as Datadog
- Ability to utilize generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality
