This role focuses on developing eve, Vercel's framework designed for creating production-ready AI agents. The position suits a technologist with extensive experience in TypeScript and distributed systems who wants to shape developer experiences for the next generation of artificial intelligence applications.
Reporting directly to the Director of Vercel's Agent Stack, the professional selected will build core framework primitives, work on the runtime utilizing Vercel Workflows, AI SDK, and Sandbox, and establish channels for integrations such as Slack, WhatsApp, and Web Chat. While the position is listed as remote, individuals located within commuting distance of Vercel offices in New York City, San Francisco, London, or Berlin are expected to work in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. New York City-based applicants will have a base pay range of $208,000 to $312,000, with compensation varying based on geography, skills, and experience.
Responsibilities
- Design and release core features for the eve framework, including file-system conventions, compilers, and runtimes
- Develop and maintain integrations spanning channel layers like Slack, Web Chat, WhatsApp, APIs, and Cron, as well as connection layers
- Partner with AI SDK, Workflows, and Sandbox teams to achieve seamless primitive composition
- Improve developer experience aspects such as CLI ergonomics, error messages, documentation, and sample projects
- Contribute to evaluation and observability features including test suites, scoring rubrics, and deployment-time evaluations
- Engage with early customers and internal groups to diagnose reliability concerns and iterate quickly
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of production experience working with TypeScript and JavaScript
- Solid grasp of distributed systems concepts including durable execution, checkpointing, async workflows, and failure recovery
- Familiarity with LLM APIs and agent orchestration patterns like tool calling and multi-agent delegation
- Availability for in-office anchor days on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday if residing within a commutable distance of a company office in San Francisco, New York, London, or Berlin
Qualifications
- Background in building or operating developer tools, frameworks, or SDKs intended for external developers
- Demonstrated history of launching high-end open-source or customer-facing application programming interfaces with a focus on design
