Job Description

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer II for its Batch Developer Experience team in the United States. The group aims to speed up and steady batch development and testing, and to raise the dependability of the company's critical batch jobs. Working with product and infrastructure engineers, the engineer builds tooling that smooths workflows and reinforces testing.

Day to day, the engineer splits larger assignments into tasks, delivers them in stages, and works with the tech lead and manager to keep projects on schedule. The role also includes contributing to product discussions with product management, design and analytics, explaining technical limits, and helping the group weigh risk and trade-offs.

The engineer helps run the team's artifacts in production by setting up and watching metrics, escalating issues, and participating in on-call and keep-the-lights-on work. The posting also values contributions to team culture, such as taking part in the interview process.

Applicants should bring 1.5-plus years of software engineering, including backend systems built in Python or Kotlin. Familiarity with distributed systems and with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes is expected, along with a habit of writing tested, extensible code and giving clear feedback in code reviews.

The US base pay range is USD 165,000 to 225,000 per year in California, Washington, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, and USD 146,000 to 206,000 per year in other states.

  • Join product ideation with product management, design and analytics and explain technical constraints.
  • Set up and monitor metrics for the team's systems and escalate problems when needed.
  • Support on-call and keep-the-lights-on work.
  • Review peers' code and give constructive feedback.
  • Take part in the interview process and other team growth activities.

Requirements

  • 1.5-plus years of software engineering work.
  • Hands-on time designing, building and launching backend systems.
  • Proficiency in either Python or Kotlin.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
  • Ability to shape a straightforward business need into code that spans several components.
  • Comfort working in a large codebase and debugging code written by others.
  • Clear writing and speaking that helps a worldwide engineering group work together.

Qualifications

  • Practical experience of equal standing, or a university degree in a related discipline.
