Affirm is recruiting a Software Engineer II, Backend for its Partner Merchant Interfaces team, which sits within Decisions Foundations. The role is remote. The team maintains the APIs partners and merchants use to connect with Affirm, and those integrations support several large partners, including Amazon and Stripe.
The group is expanding and moves quickly. The engineer takes on projects, works with the tech lead and manager to break them into deliverable pieces, and completes them in phases. The job also involves working with product, design and analytics on ideas, technical limits and tradeoffs, along with monitoring metrics and supporting on-call coverage.
The technical work centers on designing, building and launching backend systems in Python or Kotlin and designing APIs that handle heavy scale. Familiarity with distributed systems and with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes is expected. The engineer should be able to turn a simple problem into code that coordinates several components.

Requirements
- At least 1.5 years working as a software engineer

- Familiarity with distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
- Experience creating and launching APIs at scale
- Ability to turn a simple business problem into well-tested, extensible code spanning several components
- Comfort navigating a large codebase and giving feedback through code reviews
- Strong verbal and written communication for a global engineering team
- Hands-on experience of equal value or a degree in a relevant discipline
