Twilio is hiring a Software Engineer (L2) to join its Twilio Flex platform team. Operating as a remote-first company, Twilio builds communications and customer engagement solutions utilized by organizations and developers globally. In this role, you will contribute to the engineering capacity within the Bengaluru office, helping construct a center of excellence for the Flex business unit. As part of a scrum team, you will design, build, test, and operate cloud-based microservices from end to end.
This position is well-suited for engineers experienced in Java and cloud infrastructure who want to influence product roadmaps, tackle complex production challenges, and handle distributed systems. While the role is remote and based in specific regions of India, occasional in-person attendance may be required for team gatherings, functional off-sites, or customer meetings. Twilio applies artificial intelligence to streamline parts of its hiring workflow, though final selections are made by human team members.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain scalable, distributed systems emphasizing reliability and performance
- Design, develop, test, and deploy Flex platform microservices on AWS
- Manage services end-to-end, handle incidents, join on-call rotations, and conduct root cause analyses
- Write automated unit and integration tests while contributing to CI/CD pipelines and deployment tools
- Refactor code to reduce technical debt and uphold engineering standards during reviews
- Collaborate with engineering and product peers to shape roadmap priorities and propose architectural designs
- Create and maintain system documentation, runbooks, design documents, and operational playbooks
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
- Three to five years of experience building secure, highly available, cloud-native enterprise SaaS applications using Java
- Hands-on experience with public cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS or GCP
- Background in building real-time, highly scalable distributed systems on a microservices architecture
- Familiarity with container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience designing and implementing REST APIs
- Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, as well as caches
- Experience with modern automated testing and CI/CD pipelines
Qualifications
- Experience with streaming systems like Kafka, Flink, and Spark
- Experience deploying cloud applications across multi-region environments
- Ability to build relationships and influence across all organizational levels
- Background in contact center and customer engagement solutions
