As a Software Engineer focused on Motion Planning, the professional joining this team will work on enhancing the navigation and driving capabilities of robotic vehicles on public streets. The work addresses intricate routing challenges in environments like downtown San Francisco and the Las Vegas Strip. Safety serves as a core pillar, requiring a methodical workflow that transitions from algorithmic design to simulation, closed-course trials, and vehicle testing alongside safety drivers.
This position requires cross-functional cooperation with peers in perception, prediction, and operations. The ideal candidate will enjoy solving advanced robotics problems, writing novel technologies, conducting drive reviews, and reviewing academic literature. Responsibilities
- Design and write principled algorithmic enhancements for specific driving behaviors within the codebase
- Run automated evaluations of code modifications across numerous driving scenarios using backend tooling
- Spearhead vehicle drive evaluations to gather practical feedback regarding driving performance
- Monitor academic literature and attend industry conferences to track recent progress in robotics and motion planning
- Draft and submit patent applications for newly invented technologies
Requirements
- Hold a Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline alongside relevant experience
- Demonstrate fluency in C++
- Possess knowledge of configuration spaces and multiple planning strategies such as A*, PRMs, and RRTs
- Show a proven ability to build real-time motion planning algorithms
Qualifications
- Contributed significantly to sampling-based or geometric planning algorithms
- Worked with autonomous robots, machine learning, or data-driven development pipelines
- Familiarity with CUDA, 3D data, probabilistic filtering, SLAM, pose estimation, or ROS
