Zoox is hiring a Software Engineer to focus on Pipeline Infrastructure and Integration within its Software Systems Engineering team. This group creates development processes and ensures safety-critical software meets production vehicle standards by utilizing methods from industries like automotive and avionics. The position involves collaborating with software engineers across the organization, from AI Autonomy teams to RTOS and middleware developers, to maintain high-assurance software processes.
The person in this role will oversee the entire SSE pipeline ecosystem, transition prototypes into deployed CI-enforced systems, convert issue data into metrics dashboards, investigate cross-platform issues, and help shape future pipeline suites. This hybrid opportunity suits engineers experienced in enterprise-scale deployment practices who enjoy working with large codebases and automation tooling.
Zoox is building an autonomous vehicle fleet and supporting ecosystem to deliver urban mobility-as-a-service. The company operates at the intersection of machine learning, robotics, and design. Responsibilities
- Manage the complete SSE pipeline ecosystem, including ClangTidy, ASAN/TSAN/Harden, and FBInfer
- Transition stability tooling pipelines from prototypes to fully deployed and CI-enforced systems across branches
- Transform raw issue data into dashboards and key performance indicators to monitor pipeline health and software quality trends
- Investigate complex cross-platform problems and determinism issues by building necessary instrumentation and tooling
- Contribute to new checker rollouts, testing strategies, and the scaling of SSE infrastructure
- Collaborate with team leads to define delivery milestones, automate required tooling, and report on business metrics
- Participate in code reviews and incident postmortems to preserve long-term software system stability and reliability
Requirements
- Advanced degree such as an MS or PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, aerospace, or a related discipline
- At least three years of experience working with large code bases
- Experience developing in Bazel and Python
- Background in setting up backend infrastructure including databases, web servers, and shell scripts
- Ability to interface with software written in both C++ and Python
- Experience drafting system design diagrams and documentation for customer communication and long-term maintenance
- Ability to quickly write automation scripts for tasks like generating metrics or establishing traceability
- Extensive experience with enterprise-scale deployment practices and related challenges
Qualifications
- Experience working with PipeDream, Airflow, and Looker
- Proficiency in ReactJS, TypeScript, and C++ including versions C++11, C++14, and C++17
- Familiarity with memory management, threading, and common debugging patterns
