Zoox is seeking a Software Engineer for Planner Frameworks Pipeline to build and support large-scale simulation and validation pipelines for self-driving vehicles. Operating within a compact team inside the larger Autonomy organization, this position focuses on data and GPU intensive workloads powered by Ray.io and Kubernetes.
This is a hands-on technical role offering significant independence and ownership. Professionals in this position will shape framework architecture, enhance system reliability and cost-efficiency, and expand capabilities to handle novel use cases. While the work centers on off-vehicle pipelines, engineers collaborate closely with peers developing on-vehicle algorithms and models, maintaining a direct connection to the end users.
The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience with distributed systems and a strong background in production-grade software development. Candidates do not need prior experience in robotics or autonomous systems, though familiarity with the robotic data lifecycle is a plus. Zoox operates this position on a hybrid remote schedule.
Responsibilities
- Enhance the cost efficiency, reliability, and performance of simulation and validation pipelines
- Develop production-grade APIs, SDKs, and tools to support diverse validations of autonomous behaviors
- Optimize machine learning training pipelines that back the autonomous behavior organization
Requirements
- Six or more years of industry experience
- Experience optimizing distributed systems at scale for efficiency and cost
- Familiarity with cloud providers such as AWS
- Proficiency in Python along with familiarity in C++
- Proven track record of maintaining high availability in production systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
- Understanding of the robotic data lifecycle
- Experience optimizing machine learning workloads including training, inference, and data generation
- Background in performance investigation or algorithmic optimization
- Experience working with Ray.io, specifically Ray Core and Ray Data
