Twilio is currently seeking a Software Engineer, Platform Engineering (L2) to join their remote team. In this role, you will help design, build, and operate backend services and cloud configurations across a dual-cloud infrastructure that spans Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

This position is ideal for an engineer who wants to gain hands-on experience working with large-scale, highly available distributed systems that support massive throughput during peak traffic events. You will collaborate closely with more senior engineers, write production code, participate in code reviews, and handle infrastructure automation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate services and automation tools supporting Kubernetes clusters at scale under senior guidance
  • Translate well-scoped tasks provided by product management and technical leadership into functional code
  • Engage in code reviews adhering to established testing patterns, including unit and integration tests
  • Manage cloud configurations across AWS and Azure utilizing Terraform Infrastructure as Code
  • Maintain observability coverage including metrics, alerts, and basic distributed tracing across core data pipelines
  • Identify and report technical debt, bugs, and system anomalies to the team
  • Participate in sprint planning and seek feedback and mentorship from senior team members

Requirements

  • 1 to 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Exposure to building or operating backend services using Kubernetes, including basic operations like pods and deployments
  • Experience with or willingness to learn AI-assisted development tools
  • Exposure to GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines
  • Working knowledge of at least one of Shell, Terraform, YAML, or Go
  • Exposure to cloud environments such as AWS core services or Microsoft Azure equivalents
  • Basic familiarity with Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools
  • Foundational understanding of distributed datastores, caching layers, or asynchronous event streaming

Qualifications

  • Exposure to containerized infrastructure via coursework, internships, or projects
  • Interest in advanced deployment strategies like canary or blue/green deployments
  • Curiosity about policy-as-code tools such as OPA/Gatekeeper
  • Interest in OpenTelemetry and distributed tracing concepts
  • Familiarity with network topology, proxy layers, or mail transfer agent protocols
  • Desire to build long-term experience in multi-cloud environments
