ServiceNow is hiring a Sr Staff Software Engineer - Go, Kubernetes platform Engineering for its office in Hyderabad. This full-time position involves leading the design, delivery, and end-to-end operation of complex components within a cloud-native platform.
The role requires deep technical expertise in Go and Kubernetes, as well as experience building distributed systems. The successful candidate will act as a technical lead for major team initiatives, translating ambiguous problems into scalable designs. Responsibilities include writing code for core systems such as Kubernetes operators, controllers, and infrastructure automation, while maintaining a strong hands-on presence throughout the development lifecycle.
In addition to technical execution, this engineer will partner with Principal and Distinguished Engineers to align with platform architecture and long-term strategy, identify technical risks, and drive reliability and scalability. Mentoring junior and mid-level engineers through code and design reviews is also a key component of the position.
Candidates should have familiarity with public cloud platforms, container technologies, CI/CD, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code tools. ServiceNow operates with specific work personas based on the nature of the work and the distance between the employee's residence and the closest office.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of complex components and services within the cloud-native platform from design through production operation
- Act as technical lead for major features and initiatives, translating ambiguous problems into scalable executable designs
- Partner with Principal and Distinguished Engineers to align with platform architecture and technical strategy
- Identify technical risks early and drive resolution focused on reliability, scalability, and operability
- Maintain a hands-on presence across the development lifecycle by designing, coding, and reviewing core systems
- Develop Kubernetes operators, controllers, infrastructure automation, and platform services
- Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through technical guidance, collaborative problem-solving, and code and design reviews
- Drive technical strategy via architectural design reviews, technical proposals, and cross-functional collaboration
Requirements
- 14+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and cloud-native platforms in production
- Demonstrated experience building and operating Kubernetes platform infrastructure at scale through deployment, upgrades, and operations
- Hands-on experience developing Kubernetes Operators, Admission Controllers, or platform extensions using Kubebuilder or Operator Framework
- Experience operating both managed Kubernetes services like EKS, AKS, GKE and self-managed environments
- Experience supporting cloud-native database platforms, large-scale data infrastructure, or stateful services on Kubernetes
- Strong software engineering expertise in Go for developing operators, controllers, Custom Resource Definitions, and platform automation
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture including orchestration, scheduling, security, storage, networking, and workload management
- Experience operating stateful and distributed workloads on Kubernetes
- Extensive experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP including compute, networking, security, and identity management
- Strong background in designing and building microservices, event-driven systems, and distributed application architectures
- End-to-end ownership experience of complex technical initiatives
- Hands-on experience with containers, CI/CD, GitOps practices, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or Crossplane
- Experience implementing observability and reliability best practices including metrics, logging, tracing, monitoring, alerting, and SLOs
Qualifications
- Experience leveraging or integrating AI into engineering and platform work
- Experience with container networking and service mesh
- Experience with mutual TLS, workload identity, and secrets management at fleet scale
- Experience designing or tuning distributed data or compute workloads on Kubernetes
