Job Description
This full-time Staff Analytics Engineer role in Borrowing at Monzo can be based in London or Cardiff, or done remotely across the UK. Monzo is a UK bank, and its Borrowing domain runs more than 12 products across several geographies, supported by over 1,700 data models. The domain is partway through a large data architecture overhaul and is moving into new markets. This Staff Analytics Engineer will shape how Borrowing creates and consumes data at scale, answering to the Borrowing Data Director and collaborating with product, credit, engineering, the central Data Platform group and fellow analytics engineers.
The engineer designs the data layer for the domain and sets shared patterns so that the 1,700-plus models across those products are structured, connected and changed consistently. The job also moves the team beyond one-off tables toward well-specified data assets with named owners, agreed service levels, documentation and interfaces. Reusable feature layers are part of the scope, including cross-product signals such as credit behaviour, repayment patterns, affordability and risk indicators, which should be modelled once, tested thoroughly and reused by many consumers.
Other work includes improving the tools and working practices of an analytics engineering group within a credit and data organization of more than 80 people, partnering with the Data Platform team on ingestion, streaming and schema design, and keeping data models comparable across geographies and product lines. The engineer acts as a senior technical partner to backend engineers, product managers, credit teams and leadership. The role works through influence rather than line management, setting the patterns and standards for the whole domain.
Applicants should think in terms of systems, have built data platforms covering numerous products or business areas, and recognize how a table that merely exists differs from a governed, documented, trusted asset. Deep experience with dbt at scale, BigQuery or an equivalent platform, CI/CD for data, testing and orchestration is expected, together with an interest in lending, its risk and its regulatory setting. Pay is listed at £121,600 to £164,600, plus incentive awards and benefits.

- Scale analytics engineering tooling, patterns and developer experience across the credit and data organization

- Review designs, unblock teams and raise the standard of data work across the domain
