The company is currently hiring a Staff Brand & Motion Designer to join its internal creative studio within a late-stage startup environment. Based out of the San Francisco office on a hybrid schedule, this senior individual contributor will focus heavily on visual storytelling, motion design systems, and brand identity.
This position suits a hands-on maker who enjoys being close to creative execution and wants to influence how a B2B brand feels genuinely human. Daily responsibilities include developing visual systems for brand campaigns, product rollouts, events, and educational materials. The role also incorporates artificial intelligence tools to accelerate exploration and speed up workflows, requiring the professional to establish quality standards and creative guardrails for AI-assisted output.
Ideal candidates will bring extensive experience in visual and motion design, paired with expert proficiency in animation principles and tools. Team members at Gusto collaborate closely across marketing, product, and growth functions to maintain cohesive design languages across digital, physical, and motion formats.
Responsibilities
- Design and produce visual and motion assets for brand initiatives, product launches, educational materials, and events
- Develop and expand brand systems, including animation guidelines, templates, and guardrails for organizational use
- Integrate motion design principles into foundational brand workflows for dynamic and digital formats
- Evaluate and direct AI-generated creative work to ensure brand alignment and quality standards
- Utilize AI tools to speed up concept exploration and iteration cycles
- Partner with cross-functional teams across product, marketing, and growth throughout all project stages
- Build repeatable templates and workflows to support faster production without losing quality
- Maintain consistent brand integrity across all deliverables involving traditional and AI-assisted production
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in brand design, visual design, and motion within agencies, in-house studios, or content teams
- A portfolio demonstrating brand identity, campaigns, product marketing, digital content, and examples of AI utilization
- Strong design fundamentals spanning typography, composition, color selection, and motion direction
- Expert proficiency in motion design software and principles, including Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, Lottie, Rive, and Cavalry
- Demonstrated perspective on directing AI tools, knowing when to override outputs, and upholding brand standards
- Ability to transition between broad brand-defining initiatives and rapid executional needs
- Experience establishing standards or workflows for AI-assisted creative production
