Job Description

Culture Amp is building an internal platform called the Agent Hub, which will govern how autonomous software agents are designed, released and overseen across the company. Nothing of this kind exists yet, so the Staff Engineer will help set the architecture, engineering conventions, operating approach and safety boundaries from scratch. The person should enjoy creating a new practice rather than following an established one.

The Hub is meant to enable other teams. It defines standards, produces shared building blocks and helps groups move from experiments to dependable, governed agents and workflows. The Staff Engineer steers technical decisions for core areas such as agent runtime, coordination between tools, MCP-based tool access, identity, knowledge and context, evaluation and monitoring. The engineer also chooses the right level of automation for each problem, from scripted logic to single agents or multi-agent designs.

Hands-on work includes producing reusable MCP servers with well-defined interfaces, secure credential handling, identity-aware permissions and traceable calls into core business systems. The engineer also shapes how company information is supplied to agents, drawing on document search, embeddings, graph-structured knowledge and semantic models. Setting the path from prototype to managed, secured and observable service is part of the job, along with coaching colleagues and writing reference material.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical direction for core Agent Hub capabilities such as runtime, orchestration, tool access, identity, knowledge and evaluation
  • Build and operate internal agents, automated workflows and integrations
  • Create reusable MCP servers with clear interfaces, credential brokering and per-request authorisation
  • Design the knowledge foundation that gives agents reliable access to company information
  • Set engineering standards for moving experiments into safe production
  • Partner with business teams to find high-value problems and ship tools people adopt
  • Bring the registry of agents, the risk model and the governance standards to bear on each deployed agent
  • Coach engineers and publish architecture guidance and playbooks

Requirements

  • Strong backend engineering in TypeScript, Python or both, covering APIs, testing and service design
  • Experience running cloud-native systems on AWS, including security, identity, secrets and reliability
  • Real work with AI agents, Claude or comparable tools, and MCP or similar integration methods
  • Understanding of runtime issues such as tool permissions, session state, budgets, retries, tracing and audit trails
  • Experience designing knowledge or memory systems using vector or graph retrieval
  • Record of taking unclear problems to a shipped, governed result
  • Skill in defining platform boundaries so other teams can self-serve safely

Qualifications

  • Sound judgement on when to build, buy, configure, script or use agents
  • Enthusiasm for agents, MCP and knowledge graphs, tied to measurable outcomes

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Share options through the employee share option program
  • Learning programs and coaching
  • Quarterly refresh days, an extended year-end break and a monthly wellbeing allowance
  • Parental leave from day one
  • A MacBook and a budget for a home workspace
  • Five paid social impact days each year
  • Medical insurance for employee and family (US and UK only)
