Job Description
Pinterest is hiring a Staff Machine Learning Engineer for its Content Visual AI work in the User and Content Foundations organization. The posting also calls the role a Technical Lead position and is open to candidates across the USA. Relocation help is not offered, and in-office collaboration is needed one to two times a quarter.
The organization produces reusable signals and insights about content, users and their interactions. Those signals support relevance and personalization for Discovery, Search, Growth and Ads. The effort blends distributed ML, big multimodal models, data platforms and product rollout.
The person would chart the technical path and a multi-quarter plan for visual representations, multimodal understanding and LLM-driven personalization. Duties include leading research and engineering projects from problem framing through experiments, production and adoption, and building reusable embeddings, semantic signals and machine learning infrastructure. The role also sets standards for modeling, pipelines, training at scale, inference and evaluation, and mentors engineers and scientists.
Candidates should bring seven or more years of industry experience, including two or more years of technical team leadership, and an advanced degree in a quantitative field or equivalent industry experience. Hands-on work training generative models at scale, plus distributed data tools such as Spark, Hive or MapReduce, is expected. Publications at major conferences or open-source contributions are also listed.
