This role suits a technical, hands-on design leader who is comfortable working within both terminal and design windows. The ideal candidate treats AI as a core design medium, builds production-realistic prototypes, and writes production code alongside engineering teams. Responsibilities include defining foundational patterns and interaction models, evolving the design system, and mentoring peers on craft and AI fluency. Responsibilities
- Lead design for foundational layers and platform-wide initiatives that support other product features.
- Partner with design, product, and engineering leadership to set strategic direction for platform work.
- Establish patterns, primitives, and interaction models for other teams to build with at scale.
- Write and ship production code alongside engineering teams, contributing directly to functional systems.
- Construct production-realistic coded prototypes utilizing real data for engineering validation.
- Design AI-first capabilities and infrastructure prioritizing user control, transparency, and trust.
- Create internal tooling, including skills, agents, and micro-apps, to elevate team AI practices.
- Strengthen and evolve the Dialtone design system and leave reusable patterns for other designers.
- Mentor team members, provide rigorous design feedback, and coach peers on communication and AI fluency.
Requirements
- Over 8 years of experience shipping high-quality product design work.
- Track record of impact on platform-level or foundational design surfaces such as design systems, infrastructure, or AI capabilities.
- Demonstrated practice treating AI as a design medium rather than a tacked-on feature.
- Experience building personal AI tooling like agents, CLI workflows, skills, or micro-apps.
- History of shipping code into production codebases and using coded prototypes as primary thinking tools.
- Portfolio demonstrating impactful work implemented at high-craft standards with evidence of an AI-native design practice within the last six months.
Qualifications
- Experience shipping AI-native products, conversational interfaces, or agentic workflows.
- Background in building internal tooling, developer-facing design systems, or prototyping infrastructure.
- Maintenance of a personal practice including side projects, writing, open source contributions, or experiments.
- Experience working in SaaS, contact centers, communications, or real-time collaboration platforms.
- Experience helping evolve or scale a design system alongside its adoption mechanics.
