Zoox is currently hiring a Staff or Senior Staff Software Engineer for its Full Stack Software Systems Infrastructure division. The organization builds internal tooling and maintains development processes to guarantee that safety-critical software for production autonomous vehicles meets strict standards. This position centers on technical leadership for the Geofencer platform, an internal geospatial system that establishes operational boundaries and routing information for robotaxis. The role suits experienced software engineers who want to manage architecture and delivery across an entire stack, ranging from interactive map-editing user interfaces to complex backend services and release pipelines.
As part of the role, the engineer will work closely with mapping, autonomy, safety, and operations teams to translate complex operational needs into scalable solutions. Responsibilities include guiding feature delivery, enforcing safety standards, operating production infrastructure, and mentoring teammates. Zoox focuses on developing custom-built, fully autonomous vehicle fleets and their supporting ecosystems to deliver next-generation urban mobility services.
Responsibilities
- Lead system design and development for the Geofencer application across the entire stack
- Manage core geospatial data workflows such as versioned geofence editing and drivable-area computation
- Oversee the Plan of Record release process to publish operational constraints directly to the fleet
- Integrate the platform with external systems including the Zoox Road Network map graph and S3 artifact pipelines
- Operate production infrastructure involving Bazel builds, Docker, Kubernetes, and observability systems
- Drive alignment across operations, mapping, and autonomy stakeholders
Requirements
- Have ten or more years of professional experience building and operating production full-stack systems on large code bases
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in Python backend services and React with TypeScript or JavaScript
- Possess experience with relational databases, asynchronous task-queue architectures, and scripting
- Bring familiarity with Linux, cloud infrastructure, containerized deployment, and CI/CD pipelines
- Show documented technical leadership through driving multi-quarter projects and mentoring engineers
Qualifications
- Hold a Bachelor degree in mathematics, an engineering discipline, or a related field
- Gain an advantage with geospatial systems experience such as PostGIS, GDAL, Shapely, or map rendering libraries
- Bring background in robotics, automotive, or aerospace software environments
- Demonstrate familiarity with machine learning-assisted data pipelines and labeling workflows
