UpGuard is expanding its engineering team and hiring a Staff Software Engineer to establish technical direction across Product Engineering. Operating in a fully remote environment, UpGuard builds a Cyber Risk Posture Management platform designed to replace manual security bottlenecks with artificial intelligence. The organization processes 100 billion risk signals daily and integrates security ratings, threat intelligence, and agentic AI.
In this position, the successful candidate will remain hands-on in the code while collaborating with leadership to guide the platform's future architecture. This role involves tackling significant data and scaling challenges that extend across multiple engineering squads. The technical stack utilizes React and TypeScript for frontend development, Go services supported by Postgres databases, and Kubernetes deployed on Google Cloud Platform. Engineers default to AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Cursor. The role suits an experienced engineer who can balance technical quality with business needs while maintaining a collaborative, low-ego approach.

Responsibilities
- Write code and ship features within a product engineering squad
- Establish cross-team technical direction and own architecture decisions spanning multiple squads
- Lead complex scaling and data challenges to support 100 billion risk signals daily
- Raise engineering standards org-wide through code reviews, standard setting, and mentoring senior engineers
- Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to shape the product roadmap
Requirements
- Approximately 8 years of relevant engineering experience at product-driven, technology-centric companies
- Proficiency in TypeScript and React
- Experience with a backend programming language such as Go
- Relational database skills utilizing Postgres
- Ability to use AI coding tools as a default workflow with strong review judgment
- Track record of setting technical direction across multiple teams
- Demonstrated experience owning a difficult scaling or architecture problem end-to-end
Qualifications
- Cybersecurity industry experience
- Experience running services on Kubernetes, ideally on Google Cloud Platform
- Background in data engineering, large-scale scanning, crawling, or high-throughput systems
- Experience evolving architecture and team culture during company scaling
- Experience building complex applications from the ground up within a cross-functional team
