The Cloud Infrastructure division is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to build and operate foundational platforms supporting internal services across the enterprise. In this capacity, you will focus on delivering developer APIs and command-line interfaces, Kubernetes infrastructure, capacity management tools, and cloud automation frameworks. This role suits an experienced distributed systems practitioner who thrives on system reliability, high availability, and efficient infrastructure design.
This is a remote position open to candidates residing in specific U.S. states where Airbnb Payments, Inc. is a registered entity, including Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington. Occasional travel to an Airbnb office or company offsite may be required depending on coordination with management.
Responsibilities
- Design and construct modern cloud-native infrastructure utilizing public cloud technologies.
- Deliver secure, efficient, and mature frameworks designed to reduce infrastructure complexity.
- Enhance and optimize existing services to elevate operational efficiency and overall performance.
- Raise system availability through the application of distributed systems best practices.
- Partner with infrastructure engineering peers to establish a dependable technological foundation for future growth.
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise operating Kubernetes at scale.
- Professional experience with public cloud providers like AWS, GCP, or Azure and their respective Infrastructure as a Service offerings.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration utilities such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Full-cycle development capability with strong ownership over distributed systems throughout their lifecycle.
- Residency in an approved U.S. state where Airbnb Payments, Inc. is a registered entity.
Qualifications
- Ten or more years of industry experience combined with a Bachelor or Master degree, or two or more years of industry experience paired with a PhD, preferably in Computer Science or a related field.
