As a platform driven by creativity, thousands of external developers actively build applications for the ecosystem. Reddit is currently seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Developer Ecosystem to join its team in a remote capacity. This hands-on position involves operating across backend, frontend, infrastructure, client, and full-stack systems to enhance the developer platform. The ideal candidate enjoys collaborating directly with users, navigating complex technical boundaries, and creating efficient tools for application builders.
In this role, the engineer will establish technical direction, head major initiatives, and construct foundational infrastructure for upcoming developer experiences. Daily responsibilities include designing platform features, guiding projects from exploration to launch, and collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers. The role suits an entrepreneurial professional who possesses strong communication skills, uses AI tools to boost productivity, and brings a track record of mentoring teammates.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve core platform services and capabilities to enhance the developer experience
- Create new functionalities that assist external developers in building applications on Reddit
- Contribute across the entire development cycle including technical design, coding, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch
- Review code, design documents, product specifications, and user experiences
- Help shape team strategy and the future direction of the platform
- Share knowledge, mentor teammates, and foster a culture of thoughtful ownership
Requirements
- Have 6 or more years of industry experience working on platform functionality, developer tools, full-stack products, or app platforms
- Bring experience leading large-scale technical projects from design through delivery
- Demonstrate API design and platform engineering experience paired with developer empathy
- Possess familiarity with technologies such as Go, TypeScript, GraphQL, React, Redis, and relational or NoSQL databases
- Maintain a habit of using AI tools in daily work to improve productivity and software quality
- Demonstrate a track record of mentoring engineers and improving software engineering practices
- Exhibit an entrepreneurial mindset characterized by self-direction, curiosity, comfort with ambiguity, and strong communication skills for a fully remote setting
Qualifications
- Contribute to open-source projects
- Bring native mobile development experience
