Robinhood is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join its Prediction Markets group, a fast-growing product line focusing on event contracts. The organization aims to widen access to financial markets traditionally reserved for institutions, building systems that handle real-time trading events surrounding major cultural moments like sports and elections. This position operates at an IC6 or Staff level, helping guide the engineering organization as it expands.
The role suits a senior technical contributor with extensive experience in distributed architecture who wants to drive system reliability, mentor engineering talent, and shape technical strategy. The person in this role will define architectural improvements, set execution priorities, and work closely with product teams to support exponential growth.
Positions are based out of Robinhood's offices in Menlo Park, California, and New York, New York. Employees are expected to work from the office at least three days each week. Responsibilities
- Manage the technical roadmap for core Prediction Markets backend services by setting priorities and driving team execution
- Design and implement scalable, low-latency backend systems capable of supporting real-time trading and large-scale event resolution
- Drive engineering excellence initiatives focused on code quality, observability, system reliability, and architectural resilience
- Collaborate with product, platform, and cross-functional teams to harmonize technical plans with organizational goals
- Mentor engineers across the organization and establish high technical standards and ownership practices
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and scaling engineering culture
Requirements
- Have at least 10 years of backend engineering experience, including a strong background at the IC6 or Staff Engineer level
- Demonstrate hands-on experience designing and operating large-scale, distributed systems optimized for high availability, performance, and reliability
- Bring strong technical leadership skills with a history of influencing cross-functional outcomes and driving engineering standards without formal authority
- Possess excellent communication and collaboration abilities to engage effectively with product, engineering, and leadership stakeholders
- Show direct experience building business-to-consumer software products designed for millions of end users
- Work from the Menlo Park, California or New York, New York office at least three days per week
