Affirm is hiring a remote Staff Software Engineer, Frontend to join the Decisions Orchestration team. Affirm provides payment solutions that let consumers pay over time without hidden fees or surprises. The Decisions Orchestration group manages critical sections of the checkout experience, covering user-facing screens alongside behind-the-counter downstream orchestration and state management. In this full-time remote role, the selected engineer will establish the technical vision for the team, lead the architectural design of upcoming checkout interfaces, and elevate frontend engineering standards across core workflows to ensure fast, clear, and dependable performance.
This position suits a seasoned developer who excels in ambiguous environments and can navigate everything from low-level programming details to large-scale system architecture. The individual will act as a force multiplier by guiding operational procedures, defining testing and monitoring protocols, setting code review standards, and mentoring peers through feedback and tech talks.
Responsibilities
- Set the team technical strategy spanning a year-long timeframe and align it with critical business objectives
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics teams during the product development lifecycle to manage risks and trade-offs
- Define technical solutions and operational processes to act as a force multiplier
- Own team operations and system availability through monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, alerting, and testing procedures
- Establish code review and design standards to foster a culture of quality and technical ownership
- Guide and mentor team members by providing constructive feedback and leading by example
Requirements
- Possess at least 8 years of experience developing and architecting web applications with declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue
- Demonstrate proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript
- Show documented experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating existing functionalities through structured technical and execution plans
- Write clear, high-quality code that is easily understood and utilized by others
