Coinbase is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Mobile QA for the App Infra team within the Consumer & Business group. This remote-first role focuses on the native rewrite of the retail mobile app using Swift and Kotlin to replace the React Native framework. The position requires defining the mobile quality strategy and establishing test infrastructure relied upon by approximately thirty product teams.
The successful candidate will own technical architecture for mobile quality assurance during the platform migration, establish automated regression systems, and create release readiness gating. Responsibilities include partnering with engineering leadership, product management, and design to set service level objectives, defining quality dashboards, and mentoring engineers on test architecture and native debugging.
Coinbase operates on a remote-first model that includes mandatory quarterly in-person work sessions known as surges. The compensation package for this position features an annual base salary ranging from $218,025 to $286,500 USD, alongside equity and bonus eligibility, plus medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits. Responsibilities
- Manage technical strategy for mobile QA infrastructure throughout the native app migration
- Design operational methods to minimize maintenance overhead while maximizing release quality
- Develop and scale automated test systems for routine regression checks
- Determine the correct balance between automated checks and manual validation across regression, performance, and release gating
- Direct the QA readiness workstream for phased rollouts, aligning on success metrics, resource allocation, and operations
- Collaborate across functions with engineering, product, and design leaders to establish service level objectives and quality metrics dashboards
- Create onboarding playbooks for product teams migrating to native codebases
- Mentor L3 through L5 engineers regarding test architecture, native debugging, and quality standards
Requirements
- Minimum of eight years of professional software engineering experience
- Demonstrated expertise in mobile test infrastructure, including the creation of automated regression systems for native iOS and Android platforms
- Advanced proficiency in Swift and Kotlin for building test frameworks and debugging native mobile applications
- Experience managing QA operations during large-scale platform migrations and dual-codebase parity validations
- Proven ability to secure alignment and commitment from cross-functional partners regarding testing strategies and release criteria
- Experience utilizing generative AI responsibly while keeping human oversight for workflow efficiency and quality
