Ro is seeking a Staff Software Engineer and Tech Lead for its Patient Experience team based in New York, offering a hybrid work arrangement. Ro operates a vertically integrated digital health platform combining telehealth, diagnostics, pharmacy, and logistics into a single end-to-end patient experience. This role is well-suited for an experienced backend and systems design expert who wants to shape architectural foundations, guide technical strategy, and lead complex engineering projects within a performance-driven culture.
As a technical leader on the Patient Experience team, the selected professional will collaborate closely with product, design, engineering, and clinical teams to build scalable systems for patient intake, care journeys, subscriptions, and commerce flows. Rather than working on isolated experiments, this engineer will establish reusable capabilities that empower the company to rapidly iterate and scale consumer-facing growth initiatives. Team members are expected to operate with urgency and a strong sense of ownership to help modernize healthcare delivery.
Responsibilities
- Translate patient growth opportunities and business needs into comprehensive technical strategies and scalable architectures.
- Drive complex backend engineering efforts spanning healthcare intake, prescription workflows, commerce, merchandising, subscriptions, and renewals.
- Contribute to product direction from the earliest stages by applying systems thinking and technical judgment.
- Elevate the team product and technical capabilities by guiding engineers to understand underlying system architecture alongside user outcomes.
- Develop reusable platform capabilities to support fast testing, iteration, and scaling of new growth experiences.
- Analyze business insights and patient journey data to identify high-impact technical initiatives that foster revenue growth and positive health outcomes.
Requirements
- Demonstrated track record of impact and strong technical judgment managing complex engineering problems.
- Extensive backend and systems design expertise encompassing services, APIs, data flows, and dependencies.
- Strong product judgment with experience connecting architectural choices to business and consumer outcomes.
- Background leading technical work for consumer-facing growth experiences including acquisition, onboarding, conversion, and retention.
- Experience spearheading architecture across interconnected systems and collaborating smoothly across organizational boundaries.
- Proficiency in Python or equivalent familiarity with similar languages to adapt rapidly to the company Python stack.
