Canva is hiring a Staff Technical Program Manager for its Developer Experience group, which is based in Sydney with hybrid arrangements. The work is hands-on and sits within the Infrastructure Supergroup inside the Platform organisation. The group maintains the systems that underpin how engineers write, build, test and release code.
The program manager leads planning at both strategic and delivery levels: scope definition, prioritisation, effort estimates and capacity management. The role guides large cross-team programmes, tracks the technical links between teams in different groups and supergroups, and pushes decisions forward by escalating risks. It includes deciding how progress is measured, running regular check-in rhythms, building dashboards and roadmaps, and leading recurring improvement practices for product and engineering teams. Since AI tooling moves quickly, the approach and vendor choices need regular review.
Candidates bring at least seven years of SaaS delivery work, including complex programmes used by large engineering populations. They understand how software gets built and shipped across large organisations, including CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows, and have worked with developer productivity platforms such as automated code review, IDE plugins, command-line tools and cloud dev environments. They empathise with developers, speak clearly, and meet at least one of these: regular use of AI coding assistants, familiarity with agentic AI approaches, or experience building AI-oriented engineering tools. Interviews are held online.
Responsibilities
- Shape strategy and delivery planning alongside engineering heads and PMs
- Lead technical discussions and close gaps in the solution design
- Oversee large cross-functional programmes with heavy organisational complexity
- Coordinate dependencies across groups and supergroups
- Surface risks and problems, escalating where needed to unlock decisions
- Set progress tracking methods and hold regular review cycles
- Build dashboards and roadmaps and keep reporting standards high
- Earn trust with leadership and engineering teams
- Make sure each owner is clear on their duties
- Run regular improvement routines for product and engineering teams
Requirements
- At least seven years of SaaS delivery background
- Track record of shipping complicated, multi-stakeholder programmes at scale
- Comfort leading when scope shifts quickly
- Grounding in software lifecycles at scale, CI/CD and developer flows
- Hands-on work with developer productivity tooling
- Real empathy for engineers as users
- Clear, persuasive communication and stakeholder handling
Qualifications
- At least one of: regular use of AI coding assistants such as Claude or Cursor; familiarity with agentic AI approaches including multi-agent orchestration; direct experience building AI-focused engineering tools
