Zoox seeks a Staff Technical Program Manager to steer the Powertrain and Thermal team through all stages from initial concept to full-scale production. This position acts as the primary link between high-level objectives and technical implementation across systems like high voltage batteries, component cooling, and cabin climate. The professional chosen will balance quality, cost, manufacturing feasibility, and performance while coordinating internal engineers and outside suppliers.

This role is ideal for an experienced automotive professional who excels at managing bill of materials integrity, directing supply chain cost initiatives, and solving complex design hurdles. Responsibilities span schedule creation, issue tracking, leading design reviews, and guiding validation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Manage powertrain and thermal system design elements as the primary technical lead
  • Collaborate with internal engineers and external suppliers on component cooling, high voltage batteries, and cabin climate systems
  • Supervise bill of materials integrity and approve critical manufacturing processes
  • Drive cost and quality initiatives throughout the supply chain
  • Build program schedules and coordinate across procurement, quality, service, and manufacturing teams
  • Create and implement strategic risk mitigation plans
  • Lead root-cause analysis for design and build issues affecting production readiness
  • Oversee top-level design reviews, failure mode and effects analysis, and validation programs

Requirements

  • 12 or more years of automotive engineering background focusing on powertrain or thermal system design and project management
  • Familiarity with automotive software and tools including CATIA, PLM systems, JIRA, Confluence, and Gantt charts
  • Background in designing for vehicle attributes such as noise, vibration, harshness, crashworthiness, and reliability
  • Demonstrated history of delivering components via contract manufacturers and external suppliers
  • Complete New Product Introduction experience
  • Availability for global travel as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Knowledge of hardware and firmware product development
  • Familiarity with vehicle controller area network and firmware
