Job Description
Canva is seeking a Sub-Saharan Africa Content Strategy Lead to join the team on a 12-month contract, paid via a daily rate. Canva operates a global design platform with over 250 million monthly active users across more than 190 countries. In this position, the professional will serve as a strategic voice for content within the region, partnering directly with the Sub-Saharan Africa Country Manager and working alongside the Sub-Saharan Design Lead. The focus of the role is entirely on shaping templates and elements rather than managing social media, utilizing internal and external data to ensure the local content library meets user needs and drives growth, user activation, retention, and revenue impact.
This role suits an analytical yet culturally curious strategist who can translate regional direction into actionable country-level plans. The individual will collaborate with various cross-functional groups including SEO, localisation, creators, product, and marketing. Mentorship and guidance will be provided by the EMEA Content Strategy Lead. The successful candidate will leverage data insights, spot local cultural trends, and handle production workflows spanning artificial intelligence generated content, creators, localization, and partnerships.
Responsibilities
- Prioritise and execute the country content strategy and growth levers
- Own content health and production for the assigned country
- Ensure content meets quality standards and cultural resonance
- Gather input from sales, partners, and local peers to refine strategies
- Manage content performance across discovery, editorial, search, and recommendations
- Identify and activate cultural moments alongside marketing, social, and PR teams
- Partner with the Country Manager and peers to align priorities and unblock execution
- Build relationships with local creators and partnerships in collaboration with community managers
Requirements
- Three to five or more years of experience in content strategy, regional business strategy and operations, partnerships, or similar roles within high-growth content, media, or marketplace global technology companies
- Deep understanding of local market content, trends, and aesthetics
- Ability to balance strategy with hands-on execution across multiple production streams
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills with cross-functional alignment capabilities
- Experience operating in fast-moving environments while handling ambiguity
- Strong analytical skills to assess content performance and adjust strategies
- Track record in managing production workflows, partnerships, or creator activation
- Relevant language skills and cultural knowledge for the target geographic market
