Job Description
Zimpost is currently seeking a Systems Database Administrator to join its team in Harare on a full-time, on-site basis. The successful candidate will report directly to the Business Applications Manager and will play a critical role in managing and protecting the organization's information assets.
This position is well-suited for an IT professional with a strong background in database management systems, coding, and scripting who wants to contribute to a national postal and communication services provider. The role involves overseeing the database management systems at Zimpost, ensuring data security, planning backup and disaster recovery procedures, and optimizing system performance.
Key responsibilities include designing and enhancing databases for the organization's MIS and ICT systems, conducting user management with a focus on segregation of duties, and advising leadership on emerging database technologies. The incumbent will also collaborate with network administrators to coordinate security measures and contribute to business continuity planning.
Applicants must possess a relevant bachelor's degree and hands-on experience working in both Windows and Linux environments, along with familiarity with enterprise resource planning systems and database technologies such as SQL, Oracle, Progress, and Informix.
Responsibilities
- Manage the database management systems at Zimpost
- Plan and coordinate database security measures alongside network administrators
- Design and enhance databases for organizational MIS and ICT systems
- Perform periodic database optimization, monitoring, administration, maintenance, and fine-tuning
- Record and maintain periodic database performance metrics
- Handle database user management focusing on segregation of duties through roles, privileges, and permissions
- Manage database security and disaster recovery aspects
- Establish, plan, configure, and execute database backup, restoration, and disaster recovery plan procedures
- Advise on new database technologies for potential implementation
- Assist in developing and maintaining business continuity and recovery systems
Requirements
- Experience in database management systems
- Experience in coding and scripting
- Thorough knowledge of business processes
- Hands-on experience in Windows and Linux based environments
- Experience with ERPs, frontend systems, and database management systems including SQL, Oracle, Progress, and Informix
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Business Studies and Computer Science, Information Systems Technology, or an equivalent bachelor degree
