Expel is seeking a Systems Engineer to join its cloud-based IT organization. This role focuses on maintaining IT infrastructure security and high availability, managing access throughout the employee lifecycle, and eliminating manual tasks. The engineer will own large cross-functional projects from inception to completion, provide technical support, and collaborate with security and multi-functional teams. Additionally, the position involves overseeing IT-managed technology at the company's Herndon, Virginia headquarters, such as conference room audio-visual equipment and network hardware.

Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain IT systems within a cloud-first environment
- Deliver technical support to colleagues
- Provision accounts, access, and hardware for new hires on day one and revoke access promptly upon departure
- Serve as the primary point of contact for owned systems and services
- Drive large cross-functional projects from start to finish
- Partner with teams to detect integration problems, resolve errors, and enhance performance
- Build automations to streamline operations and decrease manual effort
- Utilize AI tools like Claude and Gemini for daily tasks
- Oversee headquarters technology including network gear, AV and conference room devices, and kiosk computers
- Inform staff regarding service changes and outages
- Collaborate with the security team to safeguard company information
- Contribute to team roadmaps and complete two-week sprints aligned with quarterly and yearly goals
- Develop and maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, and automations
Requirements
- 5 or more years of professional IT experience, with at least 2 years in a systems administration or engineering role
- Proficiency in administering enterprise SaaS tools like Okta, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, Jira, Confluence, and Microsoft 365
- Experience automating workflows and integrating systems using Workato, Microsoft Power Automate, or Okta Workflows
- Familiarity with AI platforms such as Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude, including prompt engineering and Model Context Protocol
- Understanding of protocols and standards like SAML, OIDC, SCIM, OAuth 2.0, JWT, REST APIs, and webhooks
- Knowledge of scripting and programming languages including Python, Bash, Ruby, and PowerShell
- Skills in managing macOS and Windows operating systems utilizing MDM solutions like Jamf and Intune
- Familiarity with shared-space and conference room AV technology such as Zoom Rooms and Neat devices
- Knowledge of Cisco Meraki and basic networking concepts including wireless networking, DNS, DHCP, and VLANs
- Project management capabilities for large cross-functional initiatives
- Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
