Twilio is hiring a Tech Lead /Sr. Principal Engineer (L6) to join its Emerging Technologies team within the Twilio Forward incubation lab. The company builds innovative communication solutions and software that help businesses create personalized customer experiences.
In this role, the engineer will drive rapid prototyping, build high-stakes solutions, and work on Horizon-3 initiatives focusing on artificial intelligence, including agent-native communication channels and the Agent-to-Human protocol.
This position is ideal for builders who thrive in ambiguity, possess extensive software engineering experience, and want to shape the future of autonomous systems and AI interactions.
The position is remote and based in India, specifically within Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Delhi. Periodic travel may be required for team off-sites, customer meetings, or project gatherings.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and manage end-to-end implementations of prototypes and production-ready applications.
- Drive technical direction for AI research and development in collaboration with cross-functional groups.
- Set code review governance, improve engineering standards, and mentor peer developers.
- Communicate architectural decisions and project progress to engineering peers and executive stakeholders.
- Adapt technical strategies quickly to accommodate shifting market conditions and user feedback.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- More than twelve years of professional software development background.
- Working knowledge of modern programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, or Go.
- Experience developing applications utilizing front-end frameworks like React or Angular, or back-end frameworks like Node.js or Spring Boot.
- Understanding of database design principles across SQL and NoSQL database management systems.
- Mastery of an agentic coding operating model, leveraging advanced development tools, Model Context Protocol, and LLMs.
- Capacity to work with extreme autonomy, navigate intense ambiguity, and solve unstructured problems.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with machine learning, AI principles, or large language models.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure and distributed systems design.
- Ability to rapidly learn new technologies and iterate on well-defined problems.
- Demonstrated passion for exploring emerging technologies and innovation.
