Job Description

Zoox is building a ground-up, fully autonomous vehicle fleet along with the ecosystem needed to launch urban mobility-as-a-service. The company combines robotics, design, and machine learning, and seeks a Technical Program Manager - Body & Closures to drive vehicle program execution. In this role, you will act as the technical and program lead for body structures, BIW, doors, glazing, and mechanisms.

This position requires coordinating both internal engineering staff and external supply chain partners to ensure that schedule, quality, cost, and attribute goals are met. You will bridge high-level project milestones with hands-on technical execution, overseeing bill of materials integrity, guiding design reviews, and leading root-cause analyses for build issues. Additionally, you will help optimize components for reliability, crash performance, corrosion resistance, and manufacturing.

The role is suited for experienced professionals with a strong background in automotive engineering and technical project management who can navigate complex cross-functional deliverables. You will collaborate across departments—including procurement, manufacturing, quality, and service—while keeping stakeholders informed of risks and strategic mitigation plans. Candidates may also occasionally need to perform design engineering work using Catia and 3DEXPERIENCE.

Responsibilities

  • Manage schedules, costs, and performance attributes for body and closures components.
  • Coordinate engineering execution across internal teams and external supplier design partners.
  • Oversee bill of materials integrity and approve critical manufacturing build processes.
  • Drive quality and cost engineering initiatives throughout the supply chain.
  • Collaborate with procurement, quality, service, and manufacturing teams to resolve open issues and ensure timely delivery.
  • Communicate project progress and technical risks while establishing strategic mitigation plans.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and tracking for critical design and build issues impacting vehicle production readiness.
  • Lead top-level design reviews, DFMEAs, validation programs, and manufacturing mock-builds to optimize system designs.
  • Develop and mature designs using Catia and 3DEXPERIENCE when acting in a design engineering capacity.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Bring at least six years of automotive engineering experience focusing on body, closures, and technical project management.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with advanced automotive engineering tools such as CATIA V5/V6, PLM/BOM management, FMEA/FTA, structured root-cause analysis methods, and project management software.
  • Possess experience designing for vehicle attributes including crash, NVH, reliability, strength, and corrosion.
  • Demonstrate a track record of managing cross-functional projects and delivering components via external suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Have end-to-end New Product Introduction experience and the ability to drive outsourced engineering.
  • Communicate effectively across all organizational levels and be available for global travel.

Qualifications

  • Experience working at an automotive OEM.
  • Familiarity with hardware and firmware product development along with vehicle CAN and firmware.
  • A passion for electronic and autonomous mobility.
